Shed More Pounds By Staying OFF Your Bathroom Scale!
By Tabitha Stuart

That's right, I said by staying OFF your scale!

People just can't seem to stay away from that bathroom scale. It's so temping to hop on it everyday, even several times a day. Sometimes we are so consumed with losing weight it is like we are waiting for a miracle- "Oh my gosh... I lost 10 pounds since this morning!" Okay, that's not going to happen. So the best thing you can do is stay away from it!

Your weight will fluxuate a little from to day day due to your bodies water content and other factors. I have found that jumping on the scale every time you see it can be one of the worst cases of self-sabotage. If you feel you stuck to your diet and you got in a good workout but then you step on the scale and you didn't lose a pound, or worse, you gained one, you are more likely to get frustrated and feel that your hard work was useless. This can lead to binge eating, stress (wich will seriously effect your body's ability to drop pounds), or even cause you throw in the towel all together.

Another good reason not to rely totally on your scale is the simple fact that if you are exercising on a regular basis, you are replacing some of that fat with lean muscle. As a rule of thum, a pound of fat is about the size of a pound of butter (4 sticks). A pound of muscle is about the size of 1 stick of butter. That is why you should also be using a measuring tape to track your results. For example: you may have lost a pound of fat off of your belly, but built a pound of abdominal muscles. So even though you weigh the same, you lost the equivelent mass of about 3 sticks of butter off your waist. That's alot! Get out your butter and look!

If you are trying to lose weight, the best thing you can do is pick a day of the week that will be your "weigh in" day every week. It is best to weigh yourself in the morning if possible, wearing either nothing or something thin and light like shorts and a tank top. If possible, weigh yourself after you have gone to the bathroom and had a short time to wake up, but before you eat or drink anything. During this same time take your measurements. You can keep track of your weekly results in a notebook. If you don't see the results you were hoping for this week, it's okay. Persistence is the key to successful weight loss.
